Inaugural Boethius Fellows Colloquium

Inaugural Boethius Fellows Colloquium

The renewal of classical education has formed thousands of students, but teachers who have not received a classical liberal education themselves have had no opportunities to be trained in the liberal arts by masters. Various organizations offer brief courses, retreats, or conferences, but there is no integrated apprenticeship program.

To fill this need, the Boethius Institute had established its Fellowship Formation program. Its two-year curriculum will give Fellows a firm grounding in each of the traditional liberal arts as they serve to open up a path to wisdom. In addition to studying both the language and mathematical arts, they will complete two major classical education projects under the guidance of a senior fellow.

Our inaugural cohort includes 13 fellows. These fellows have varying levels of experience, different career backgrounds, and different native tongues, but share a common commitment to education renewal.

On August 4th, our fellows gathered at the Augustine Institute in Denver for our first colloquium. Together with our Senior Fellows, they discussed The Consolation of Philosophy by our patron, St. Boethius, and listened to a lecture on Boethius by each of the Senior Fellows:

  • The Consolation of the Liberal Arts – Jeff Lehman
  • Boethius and Providence – Andrew Seeley
  • Prudence Bare – Matthew Walz
  • The Influence of Boethius – Erik Ellis

Please pray for the success of our mission as our fellows begin their module on grammar. They are diving into the theory and practice of grammar by working on the first 14 verses of St. John’s Gospel in English, Latin, and Greek.
