Drawing generously from the Gospel of St. John, this lecture considers the Incarnation as the foundation of Catholic education, emphasizing various ways in which the words and deeds of Christ the Teacher shed light on the nature of the human person and the vital place of the liberal arts in Catholic liberal education. Pursued under the light of the Catholic faith, the liberal arts can help bring about the perfection of our nature, freeing us from ignorance and enabling all of our teaching and learning to find its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6).
This talk was given at the St. John Bosco Conference at the Augustine Institute on Jan 27, 2024.
